The movie is officially out tomorrow. I won't be able to go to premiere unfortunaltely (work, work, work), but this week I'll definitely go to the cinema to see what Christian Rivers and Peter Jackson did with "Mortal Engines" (so excited).

I'm bringing one new category in this blog: cosplay. Not the real cosplay, like Comicons, I have been to one cosplay party only once. This is more like books related cosplay. I often get inspired by the book characters. My idea is to embody the characters based only on their descriptions from the books. No influence from the movies. I love the costumes from the movies or theatre, I adore costume designers as an artists, but in Anni's parlour, only costumes inspired by the books are welcome.

In today's cosplay, I decided to present two looks from the book "Mortal engines" by Philip Reeve. Hesther Shaw and Katherine Valentine.

Hesther's look was really not a big deal. Most of the time, she is dressed in old clothes, perfectly fitted for her fugitive lifestyle, always on the run, so the outfit was really easy to recreate. Log hair in reddish tones. Red scarf to hide her facial scar. I added this gloves and my dad's old diving glasses to make to make them look like goggles.

Weather outside was gloomy which made it perfect to recreate that foggy, shabby atmosphere of hopelessness wandering around no man's land.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Katherine's look was a little bit harder to recreate because there are only bunch of descriptions. As you can read between the lines, her outfits are usually simple, black or white, usually very formal like blazers and simple classic black trousers. I was inspired by the chapter in which she is going out of Villa Clio to London city to find more about her father's secret. She painted blue triangle between her eyebrows, to camouflage herself as a part of Guild of Historians. I used NYX Vivid brights liquid eyeliner for the triangle, and again, my dad's old diving goggles for steampunk vibe.

Location was very hard to find since it was outdoors. Until I found this perfect spot of old warehouse with chimneys to make more post-apocalyptic industrial atmosphere.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is my first cosplay, so far. I have sooo many ideas. In almost every book I read I find something inspiring and worth revival. I am full of ideas and am going to work on realizing them.

Until then,

xoxo,

Anni!!!
